Town Board Minutes for February 27, 2012

Call to Order. Chairperson L Updike called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall, 5556 Twin Lane Road.  Supervisors V Pogue and D Yelk, and Treasurer C Yelk were present.  Excused absence: Clerk J Ramsfield.

Statement of Public Notice. The chair directed that the minutes show notice of the meeting was published in the 2/23/12 issue of The Star. Copies were posted on the three town bulletin boards on 2/24/2012.

Pledge of Allegiance: C Yelk led the pledge.

Approve Minutes of Prior Meetings: no action taken

Consider/Take Action re: Purchase of new plow truck ready for 2012-13 plow season and discuss whether to keep, trade or sell existing plow truck

PRO’S/CONS TO KEEP TRUCK #16

1999 IH Plow Truck (Est. value $18,000 – $23000)

Pros of keeping Truck #16:
Summertime Shouldering
Worth more than Town can get in sale proceeds
Good reliable spare truck if other breakdowns occur
Storage is available
Third truck available for bigger storms – more man hours on the road
Tires are in excellent condition
Has new radiator/ hoses

Cons of keeping Truck #16:
More money to put towards new truck
Repairs will continue, but much less
Needs new auger (now is bent)
Less reliable every year
Value drops every year

Pro’s to buying new truck:
Reliability
Price Increases every year
Fewer breakdowns
Stainless equipment now means more life and years of service

Consider/Take Action re: Approve Petition #DCPREZ-2012-10393 by Paul and Erin Egan, 5453 Pierceville Road in Section 23, Town of Sun Prairie, Moved by L Updike, second by V Pogue to approve Petition #DCPREZ-2012-10393 by Paul and Erin Egan, 5453 Pierceville Road in Section 23, Town of Sun Prairie, to rezone an existing 2.05 acre RH-1 Rural Homes parcel and rezone and purchase an adjacent 5.19 acre A-1(Ex) Agricultural parcel to form a 7.24 acre A-2(4) Agricultural parcel to operate a small scale agricultural enterprise with conditional use permit #DCPCUP-2012-02195 for unlimited livestock and sale of agricultural produces not produced on the premises.

Consider/Take Action re: Road name compliance with US Postal Service. The clerk was directed to contact the Post Master to determine if the issues with the road names have been changed by the Postal system or Dane County. No action taken.

Consider/Take Action re: Approve Election Inspectors 2 year term: Moved by L Updike, second by V Pogue to approve the list of elections inspectors as presented.

Committee Updates:

  • Vern: The application for the EMS generator grant was not successful.  The new training director has increased attendees to training sessions.

Old Business:

  • Doug: The eve’s trough over the front door of the town hall is still leaking.  It is suggested that a canopy be installed as a courtesy to those that are not as mobile and those that may be carrying in items, etc; Doug to look at rates.
